2014 Proud Lady Barber Competition
So this was my first time ever competing in a hair show. I had to share my experience.. Walking into the Tinley Park Convention Center not knowing what to expect. My model and my brother Larue (P.O.E) who was also competing were anxious to get on that stage and showcase what we can do with a pair of clippers. After registration we immediately went onto the floor room where booths were set up like Andis, Sam Lameer and Wahl etc. I bought some new clippers and walked and shook hands and greeted other barbers who I follow and respect. Its always exciting to be in the presence of greatness.
The atmosphere was thick with anticipation. As the time was drawing near for us to go to the briefing before the competition, I was greeted by one my good friends and fellow barbers who I have a lot of respect for. Mr Groom Theory himself Haven The Groomer Hobbs. He was in the competition as well, he's a champion and I knew i had to bring my A game to win this.
With my briefcase full of clippers my model and I walked into the briefing room and set where all the other barbers were. We were told all the rules and went and set up on the stage. My heart was pumping, my blood was boiling. Even though this was something I do everyday, being in that environment with other barbers that are great, I felt a rush. I was ready..
As the DJ dropped the music and we were told to begin i was in attack mode, i thought this is my moment, its time to show the world that DUDECANCUT!!! We had 30 minutes to do a flawless haircut. Not a single hair could be out of place. I did my best to make sure that my model was perfect as possible. The hair cut i did was a south of france with a beard.
The hair cut I did, did not place and I was very disappointed on the inside. I felt I could have placed 5th at least. But this was my first shot and so i know now what the judges were looking for. Overall it was a great experience i for sure will be competing again. My next show will be the Bonner Bros in Atlanta, GA in August.
Wish me luck
