About

Johnnie T. Griffin II — DudeCanCut

It started with watching his brother cut hair.

Growing up in Chicago, a young Johnnie T. Griffin II was drawn to the art of barbering before he ever picked up a pair of clippers — the precision, the transformation, the way a fresh cut could change how a man carried himself. That early spark never went out.

In 2008, Johnnie turned that passion into a profession. After completing barber school, he trained under Mr. Erskine Reeves, one of Chicago's most respected barbers and hair replacement specialists — a mentorship that shaped his signature approach. Johnnie doesn't just cut hair. He studies the person in the chair: their facial structure, hair texture, skin, and personality. The result is a look built specifically for them. As Johnnie puts it, "All cuts won't work for all people. I look at the entire person."

2015 Johnnie took his brand from an idea to a reality, opening DudeCanCut Hair studio in Lombard,IL. The barbers were top notch and the vibe was even better.

That commitment to craft has taken him far. He's been named one of the nation's top barbers by Bleu Magazine, competed on the barber battle circuit, and served as the official barber for the NBA Draft Combine two years running. In 2019, he hit the road with Phillips Norelco and the Chop Chop Mobile Barbershop on a nationwide tour. Shortly after, around 2022, Johnnie and his family felt a calling to Tampa, Florida, and made the move.

Today, Johnnie is based in Brandon, Florida — and he's pouring everything he's built into what comes next. He teaches the next generation of barbers as an instructor at Pinellas Technical College, and he's pursuing pastoral ministry at Grimké Seminary, where his calling to serve people runs even deeper.

At home, he's a husband of 20 years to the woman of his dreams and a proud father of two sons.

DudeCanCut has always been about more than a haircut. It's about showing up for people, doing the work with excellence, and making sure everyone who sits in that chair leaves better than they came in. That's not a slogan. That's the standard.
